"Your vehicles are ever restless. Every vibration in the vehicle produces a corresponding change in consciousness. Is there any way to check these vibrations, to study the vehicle, so that consciousness may be still? One method is the repeating of a mantra. A mantra is a mechanical way of checking vibration. Instead of using the powers of the will and of imagination, you save these for other purposes, and use the mechanical resource of a mantra." -- ANNIE BESANT

Pujya Dr. RK - Thought

Life is like a very costly machine. To utilize it with expertise is a great art. Those who know this art live happily and reach their targets. But those who do not know how to handle a machine not only spoil it, but sometimes meet with accidents, ill health, worried mind, family disturbances, economic wants, problems with enemies, public dishonor and sorrow because of failures, all are symptoms that the parts of the "human machine" are either run down or broken.

This clearly means that the user or manipulator of the machine is a novice. Only an ignorant driver can create such difficult situations. It is the divine blessing that every moment of his life. That it has converted into curse is because of the operator who is ignorant of its operation and neither due to the Creator nor circumstances. Externally it seems that different organs of the body are performing their individual functions, but when we probe deep we understand that it is the vital consciousness which is operating them all. The mind which is habituated to function in that particular way controls all the various different activities of the body. When the vital principal is not in the body with all the constituents being healthy nothing functions and the body decays. Movement of hands and legs, speaking etc., though are controlled by conscious mind, blood circulation exhalation and inhalation, the beatings of the heart and other involuntary actions are controlled and performed by subconscious mind automatically.

If a graph is drawn for all these activities we can very clearly see different ups and downs. The studies of psychologists show that they follow the pattern of thoughts. Even though we may not have given importance to thoughts before, it is a fact that their importance is supreme. The famous scholar Prof. Elisha Grey in his book, "Miracles of Nature", writes that the electrical waves of thoughts are faster, and move with greater velocity than light waves. Though it is not yet possible to measure by instruments, it is a fact that thoughts are not just the outcome of imaginations, but are powerful substances whose speed and capacities are much more than that of any known physical substance. Some scientists call it subtle matter. This subtle substance of the scientists, Sri Aurobindo proves as Supra Physical. Famous scientist Robert J. Fleming writes in his work, "Idea and its properties" that heat, light, electricity and other energies, warm and soften only physical substances and mould their shapes and properties. But the thoughts, not only transform an individual, but can charge the whole environment astonishingly. The closest and most potent medium that effect consciousness is ideas. They influence their source, the thinker to the greatest extent and from them, and the environment around them and then go on propagating to limitless distances. Depending upon the personality of the inducer, their potency alters. Accordingly, the influence on others and environment depends. If the standard of thinking can be elevated the physical life will also change accordingly. The physical and mental health can be maintained by following the same principle. On the other hand if the mind is filled with unwanted thoughts and filth then because of the decay the whole existence becomes poisoned.

Even the solution for the simple problems we face in daily becomes very difficult. This position in mind strike on the goal and aim of life and it becomes stunted. The life which was supposed to reach Truth ("Satyam"), Auspiciousness ("Shivam") and Beauty ("Sundaram") and gain the Absolute, can acquire only ugliness. To remove this ugliness and establish beauty it is necessary to understand the nature of thoughts. It is thought which can lift a man or push him down the hill.

Thought waves can be divided into two categories Creative and Destructive. The creative ideas in their wake are expressed as cheerfulness, satisfaction, courage, compassion, noble heart etc. the destructive ideas are expressed as anger, jealousy, hatred etc. The effect of creative thoughts on the body is positive. On the other hand destructive thoughts, not only destroy the mental energy but also their productivity. In such a situation a man becomes nonplussed and is unable to extricate from the troubled situation he is placed. The negative attitudes only push him further into deeper trouble. The creative attitude and thought moulds our actions as a beauty. The personality improves. Famous psychologist J.J. McDermott in his study says that life is shaped by ideas. Life is a flowering of these ideas. These are expressed as noble or baser actions, love or hatred, violence or compassion etc.

Many a spiritual methods were discovered by the sages to mould and thus perfect the mind and reach higher dimensions of consciousness. For this they developed an all-round science of thoughts. In this process, the negative thoughts in the mind are first replaced by positive and noble thoughts. Sri Rama Krishna Paramahamsa concurring with this as the necessary and essential condition says in his simple language - "There is nothing troublesome or disturbing in this world. The troubles we experience are only due to our bad thoughts. The thorn of negative ideas pierces us and we feel pain. To remove it take another thorn of noble thought and remove the thorn which has pierced you.

The process of doing this is Swadyaya-self-study. This is the broom stick which sweeps away all the dirt in the mind." Sri Aurobindo in his "Letters on Yoga" commenting on the effectiveness of Swadhyaya - studying of books like scriptures etc., says that the doors of Over-Mind open because of it. Because of Swadhyaya, the thoughts of higher layers of mind open and descend into individual consciousness. He says the illumination from the illumined mind. Maharshi Patanjali in Chl, 17th aphorism says that, "By concentrating on a pious idea, bliss is obtained, egoism is lost, and Samadhi state is obtained". The above statement of the Maharshi shows that pious thoughts not only bring happiness in this physical life but also opens the door for different and higher dimensions of consciousness. Hence by conscious, systematic, creative use of thought power multi-dimensions of life can be explored and reached.
